One
of the blessings of speaking to young parents is the feedback I
receive regarding shepherding the hearts of children. Two issues
surface frequently showing the need for greater clarity.
I am often asked,
"How can I help my toddler understand the heart of selfishness? I
don't want to just correct him; I want to shepherd his heart." As you
have probably observed, most toddlers are not terribly self-conscious
about motivation. It will be far more difficult to have a meaningful
dialog with a toddler than with a teenager. Teens are more self-aware
and therefore, possess a greater capacity for such a discussion.

Ungodly forms of
thinking have taken the Christian church captive to the deceptive
teaching of behaviorism. Nowhere, perhaps, is that more clear than in
childrearing. The Bible calls us to destroy all arguments and
pretensions that are raised up against God. We are to replace them
with obedience to Christ. We, at Grace Fellowship Church are
responding by developing and propagating biblical teaching and
resources that encourage God's people to understand the heart as the
"wellspring of life," (Proverbs 4:23). One of the means by which we
encourage this vision is by releasing our pastor to teach "Shepherding
a Child's Heart" parenting seminars.
